Symbolism
The emblem of the United States Military Academy consists of the helmet of Pallas Athene, which has for centuries been the symbol of wisdom and learning, over a Greek sword, the symbol of the military profession. The two together typify the military and educational functions of the Academy. The enarched pile suggests a valley shape, alluding to the Hudson Valley where the school is located. The colors maroon and white are indicative of the Medical Corps. The caduceus is also symbolic of the medical profession. Silver metal denotes precision and sterility.
